Thursday Thirteen #5

Thirteen things that threaten to take over my house

1. Papers…mail, school papers, work papers…they grow during the night. I am convinced of it.
2. Laundry…the clean kind. I rarely have trouble with the dirty laundry, but the clean stuff just won’t go away.
3. Toys…with 6 kids in the house, the toys are everywhere. And, even though we’ve instituted rules to govern where the toys are kept, the still creep into every corner of the house.
4. Dishes. Again with the rules…there are NOT supposed to be ANY dishes upstairs, because there is not supposed to be any food upstairs. How come I keep finding things up there?!? And with 8 of us trying to keep eating, the dishes generated are overwhelming.
5. Trash. How people get away with little bags of trash is astounding to me. I know we could do better, but I feel crippled…the recycle bin for our place was gone when we got here…HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO RECYCLE?!? (and no notes about going and finding a place to take the stuff…I am still trying to find my way around to the necessary places…schools, grocery stores, Wal*mart…I don’t have any brainpower left right now to try to find the recycle place!).
6. Movies. We don’t get out much, which necessitates LOTS of movies…and, apparently, we’ve bought a lot of movies that we’ve never watched…
7. Wal*mart bags…shopping bags…again, this is a new area, and I haven’t yet found a place to recycle them, so they keep building up under my sink.
8. Books…I LOVE books. I have quite a collection that just seems to keep growing.
9. Pictures…family pictures, school pictures, decorative pictures…I am running out of space to hang them all.
10. Boxes. We just moved, and those boxes just won’t go away.
11. Shoes…8 people in the house, each with at least 2 pairs of shoes equals a LOT of shoes, snow boots, sandals, slippers….
12. Socks…somehow they never get matched and put back into circulation….
13. Children…yes, the children would LOVE to take over…it’s a daily battle.

Gandalf & Grayson's Mom here...

As the oldest of 8 kids, I can assure you MotherDear knows exactly what you're saying! We even had our Grandparents living with us for a while!

We just watched some old home movies and it's absolutely amazing to me how MotherDear managed to keep the house clean with 12 people living in it. Seriously mind-boggling!

I only have three and I feel this way, so I suppose some things never change. :) Thanks for visiting my blog for TT. :)

Very funny. I feel taken over by three, I can't imagine six!

LOL there's only two of us at my house and holy MOG the dishes pile up at an alarming rate! I can't imagine dishes for 8 people!

Why don't you use some of the paper bags or moving boxes (if you're not keeping them) for recycling your paper and on one of your trips to WickedMart, you could pick up a plastic storage bin to use as your recycle bin :-)

Thanks for visiting!

Paper is threatening my house too. I definitely agree that it multiplies all on it's own...it has too!

I love the picture of you and your kids at the top of your blog! :)

I only have two kids. One's living at school right now but I know when she comes home for the summer she will just EXPLODE all over the house!

Do you live at my house? I kept nodding my head, saying Yes, this is the one I'll tell her we have in common. But then the next one came and I would nod again. All of these things threaten to take over my house too, although I only have 3 kids, not 6, but I babysit almost everyday. Does that count?

That's a great list. I don't have kids, and somehow my clean laundry never goes away either. What's up with that? Thanks for the visit.

At least, a book collection that keeps growing is a good thing!

We seem to have a "wave" battle with something trying to take control of our home... sometimes they seem to be EVERYWHERE... until we need them then we don't have ANY to us... and that's clothes hangers.

I have so many pictures also. If I had more technology sense I would be able to put them on a cd video thing.

Paper. Ye Gods the paper. I think that paper elves being more while we sleep.

Happy TT!

I raised one daughter, who is now raising 4 children. I never experienced the things you talk about when she was growing up. However, I live in the basement of her home. Every now and then one of the kids will tell me how nice it would be if I wasn't here. Then they could have the basement as a play area. (They have plenty of room to play already.) Yes, the socks, the toys, the movies, etc are taking over, but it's the kids who are pushing me out. :D

Sure is a lot of responsibility in being a grown-up human. Makes me glad I'm a cat, with humans to wait on me hand and foot. (Um, that should be "paw and paw".)

Hang in there!
