Thoughts...at 38,000 feet...

I’m sitting on a very dark Boeing 777, somewhere over Turkey.  (Note:  I wrote this sometime on Tuesday...)

I spent the last week visiting my husband in his little neck of the woods….it was lovely.  I THOROUGHLY enjoyed visiting with him, and seeing friends made on my last visit there….and helping him start getting stuff ready to come HOME!!!  As of this moment, he has 2 days until he moves into a hotel, out of the flat he has called home for the last year.  He has to pack all of his stuff up, and mail it off to the house, and will be home during the first week of November.  I can’t wait!!

Meanwhile, the pilot has illuminated the “fasten seatbelts” sign, which means I can’t get up to go to the bathroom….so I type some more.

I have had a restful week…no kids, no housework (well, maybe just a little), no pets, no classes…I SLEPT.  It was amazing.  I did not catch up on sleep...after all, I spent 21 hours on planes going to see him, and the time difference is 7 hours. No definitely did not catch up on sleep.  But it was restful…I told our Chaplain friend and his wife today that my visits there have both seemed like a spiritual retreat…a chance for me to be fed, and to rejuvenate…and to recognize some more areas that need work.

I DID actually do some homework….I still have some projects that need to be typed up…but two big ones are mostly done.  I studied for my Ethics exam.  I made a lot of progress.  I need to make a LOT more.  Plus house cleaning, kid hauling/wrangling, and generally preparing to have my husband home.  Sigh.

I’m ready.  He is, too.  The kids are ready.  The people at church are ready.  Now, we just have to wait out the last two weeks….

I'm BAAAAACKK!!!

Wow, what a week.

Tuesday and Wednesday I was SICK.

Work was CRAZY all week long...LOTS to do, not enough time to do it all.

Thursday, I drove to SC for College Homecoming at Columbia International University. THAT was fun...not the ride so much, but seeing "old" friends, and doing the choir reunion thing. We did a concert on Friday night, which was a LOT of fun. You know it has been 16+ years since I sang in a choir...we did two songs we had done when I was in school....it was AMAZING to me that the notes came back to me!

Saturday I had lunch with my amazing sister-in-law, and then drove home.

The drive home was...ummm....interesting? In two days, gas prices SHOT up...I paid $3.50/gal before I left Virginia Beach on Thursday. Friday night, in Columbia, it was up to $4.89, and on Saturday, when I stopped in Charlotte, NC, there was no gas to be had, unless you wanted the 100 octane racing gas at $5.99/gallon....liquid gold!! Then, when I finally found a place that had some, I was limited to buying it 10 gallons at a time. I'm glad I'm not planning to make the trip back down when Jason goes next weekend...

So, I made it safely home, and am recovering from all of the fun over the weekend...and the fact that my children didn't clean house while I was gone, so it's a DISASTER. AND I have a doctor's appointment this morning....and Jason will be home today. Should be an interesting day!

Oh, and I'm on FACEBOOK now...all of my friends from college finally persuaded me....

Spring Break

Not having to get kids up and on the bus has been nice...but it also means that I'm staying up later than normal, visiting with my sister who is in town for a couple of days. We also have 2 less children in the house right now, as they are in South Carolina with their grandparents. My husband is going to be driving down tomorrow, taking my sister home, and picking up the two children, and driving back.

Today, I am hoping to get out of the house, at least heading over to Curves for a little, and maybe show my sister around a little bit. I also have to work, and we have Brew Group tonight. Must get busy...may have some pictures later!

We're home....

...and recovering from driving forever and ever yesterday. I am glad to report that we made the whole trip safely and uneventfully, and that things went mostly as planned...minor issues like forgotten toothbrushes and too-cold children are not major issues! The kids and I had a great visit with hubby's parents, and we left the two oldest with them for a couple of days, and I took the other four and drove to my parents' house...another 2 hours away, and picked up my sister, so she could spend a few days with us. We then turned around and drove back to Virginia, arriving home at about 2:15 am. Everyone was safely in bed and sound asleep by 2:30 a.m.

And, while we were gone, hubby was busy! I came home to a wonderfully clean house....my kitchen was spotless, and the whole upstairs was picked up and vaccuumed! Thank you, honey!

Now, back to work!

Girl Scout Cookies!!!

I'd forgotten that it was Cookie Time again. Without having a child in Girl Scouts this year, I lost track of when it was supposed to happen. So, a girl in the neighborhood showed up yesterday with the sale form. YIPPEE! I LOVE cookie time! The only time of year I can get my favorites....THIN MINTS!!! And hubby has to have his Tagalongs...and the Samoas for the oldest....yeah, we all have our favorites.

In other news, I just talked to hubby...he's on the road, headed this way...FINALLY! YIPPEE!!! He hopes to arrive here in Virginia on Wednesday. Please pray for his safety on the roads!

And, finally, my equipment arrives tomorrow, so I can start working from home, doing transcription work. I am excited to get started.
